When October 7,8,and 9th.
"First of all let me make this clear this is not an attempt to take away from our event, we should attend to help our sport grow and be recognized.
this is for those who cannot attend, Our viking friends in Vegas have gratiously offered an invite to the ATD relm to attend renfair as their guest. They will offer free admitance to the fair, food and lodgeing for those who want to spend the night. All the details are yet to be announced they will be posted as we recieve them." -Scottsman
Here are some of the details.
As members of Hamarr Heim were deployed this year to the Middle East there are openings for Guard duty during the Faire. Guard duty is a shared task amongst the Hamarr Heim Guild and guests. Bjarki has given us six openings to fill for whomever can do the duty with honor and then have fun off duty. This is a different from the Bel events we have attended due to the most part the constent character role play. This is more of a marriage of acting and giving your alter ego a chance to breathe and dance in the sunlight.
One of the pleasures of being a guest of HH is interacting as part of the guild, sharing responsibiliries and playtime. The duties of guarding the gates is an honor of high importance. The guards interact directly with the War Chief ,Elders and of course if he's not busy with a wench, The Jarl. The more guards available for shifts the less time each guard pair has to spend tending the gates. Always pay note and respond if within your ability to lend service if ya hear a request from HH. HH is subtle and modest when letting ya know a service is required. A member may just let ya be in ear shot of the request just to test your willingness to participate and become invited again. Let me reiterate,Listen, listen, listen and respond with voluntary desire to help and participate.
Clothing and Accessories
The ATD uniforms are prefered use during most events. As we were instructed Ren clothing and accessories include atleast two sets of clothing, feast gear, and beverage receptacles that are period appropriate, ie bota bags, flasks, drinking horns, etc. Cans drinking bottles and refill jugs/mugs should be stored in the tents away from public view. If all ya own is tennis shoes wrap some clothe on your feet and tie it with a rope or string, until sundown then put the tennis shoes on and if ya so desire your mundane regular clothes, although ya will find the veteran rennies stay in garb. I would suggest going barefoot however this is being held at a public park.
Food
Our experiance is the meals are prepared on site by The Salt Mistress and ya refer to her as Mamma or Salt Mistress and are period accurate for the most part. Snacks are always available, seems to us none go thirsty or hungry in the HH camp. There is plenty of ice and if ya have a vehicle ya may volunteer to get more ice if ya over hear a request.
Live Steel
Yes ya are encourage to wear and cary live steel. What is live steel? Live steel is that cool sword ya bought thinking how cool it was to have a sword. Live steel is from throwing knives to all forms of swords and axes. The blades must be sheathed at all times. Ya can draw your sword only in certain areas and during appropriate times. As a general rule of thumb do not draw your blade in areas outside of camp. If a patron asks to see your sword, such as a child etc., let us suggest ya maintain a safe distance from the public and to keep a firm grip should ya let the child feel the weight of the sword. If your blade is sharpened ....make a joke as to the weight or something similar,be creative, don't just say no.
Social
For the most part there are couples or what is called fair widows or widowers in the camp. The widows and widowers are persons who in real life have spouses who prefer not to participate in the regalia of fair. The widows and widowers play along as though they are single and available without actually going further than exchanging words. We found amungst the HH Guild fidelity to Guild, spouse, family, and God of your understanding of high moral value, and respecting the fundamentals is a sure way to recieve a future invitation.
In history Vikings were notorious for a reputation that legally can not be played out again in modern times. That does not discourage the role play conversations, especially amungst the company of the public.
Sleeping accomadations
Scottsman and me will be taking the Yurt,if ya don't know what a Yurt is then Google it. Absolutely no non period tents are allowed within the encampment. If ya have a hammock great! We can set up the hammock in the yurt. Bring a bedroll, pillow or sleeping bag. Vegas is continuing to have warm temps so even sleeping around the fire pit is also available. Plan on stowing your stuff in the Yurt for the most part.:)
Within the HH encampment the women speak boldly and are not neglible in saying their minds, the same with the men. Ya may feel taunted a wee bit, as is the Viking way to test how thick skinned ya are. Insults are not favored at all either way, just general teasings. Y probably won't be called fagot, ya may be called small, get it.Laugh and have a good time.
During the 3 days ya can have your senses flooded with the sights, sounds and smells(LOL) of a time long long long ago. Sobriety is encouraged during the daytime and partying in the thru the night is known to happen. Drum circles travel the various camps as do Belly dancers and minstrels at night. If your able to do magic tricks or street corner entertainment ya can use those skills while wondering the park during the day,set out your tip hat and be about collecting tips.:) Men wear your wallet in your drawers or boots and ladies put your cash in your brazieres, we are honest with eachother, I'm told not all the public who visit the fair are, so be cautious and above all,Huzzah!
