Of plastidip and shields....

What do you think, Isk?

Shields technically don't need a cover, let alone a cloth cover. Would it hit too hard?

Khalon Antonius had the idea to punch tons of tiny pin prick holes all over the surface to allow air back in so that the foams could re-expand.

I have read of several people in the midwest using them successfully and having them pass just fine at events. If you want to make one, go for it and we'll see how hard it hits, but from what I've read it should work pretty well.

I actually think if plastidip is easy enough to work with, I'd like to make another incarnation of my buckler, out of that.

hey I got a question here, how big does the head of a mace have be, I have a few good ideas but if I have to be swinging a basketball on a stick I'll work on something else.

A mace head only has to be as big as a blue club.

In other words, the tip can't pass more than 1/2" through a 2.5" hole. For a club/mace, it should be a safe striking surface on all sides. That is it.

Make mace. Hit people. Have fun.

scottsman,

I want to get with you at practice and talk PD. I'm really in the mood to take a stab at my 30" round and could use your developing expertise.

I'm looking to make it look like a traditional Viking wooden shield. Anyone have any thoughts on these images?

So, I'm thinking this sort of design, complete with spacing between the wood panels and a metal boss (poof soccer ball)/rim. Actual 3D wood grain is optional! I really like the natural and aged look of it; might want to put on some battle damage too. Perhaps something like:

As far as any graphics, simple paint over the wood is what I'm looking for, like such:

(just the white/designs, not the background colors)

I really like the designs. And screw Giggles. If you are going to do a plastidip shield make it pimp and do some really cool knotwork. Any of these ideas are awesome.

Awesome, I just came into a bit of expendable cash, and I'd like to bring my core to Wednesday's practice and talk pricing.

Overall, I'd like the lighter colored wood of the second picture with the battle damage, but the darker natural, slightly pitted/oxidized iron look of the first picture's boss and shield rim.

As far as design goes, I really like the bottom right picture that has the gold curved knot work ending in horse / dragon heads.

While everyone else enjoys their year of the samurai, we'll play with our vikings.
