I have had a couple questions about safety gear and so I thought I would put a few links out here for those who are interested.
Gloves are usually the first piece of protective gear people will adopt. Here is a great price I found for full-leather MMA gloves.
These gloves are also nice with a very open palm and the thumb is padded.
Another good option for gloves are these Stryker gloves.
Fighting with a red or a spear, I prefer to use my lacrosse gloves. It saves me from needing to get my thumbnail lanced again.
Knee pads are a great idea. Most people pick up volleyball or wrestling knee pads. The ones I wear are volleyball pads and cost me about $15 at Big 5.
The goggles I attached to my helmet are awesome eye protection, you may have noticed at WoR that Loptr wears them without a helmet. The cost has come down a bit and you can find them here pretty reasonably priced. Other brands and varieties of women's lacrosse goggles may also work well.
Perhaps the best option for face and eye protection is a full leather helmet, though. Forkbeard is offering some really nice stuff fairly inexpensively right now.
For those of us needing glasses, check out Zenni Optical as their prices on regular prescription glasses are $6.95 and they have prescription sports goggles for $29.95.
For our female participants plastic chest protectors like those used in other martial sports may be a good idea. Alternatively, leather armor can do the trick and give you an in-game advantage.
I don't wear a cup myself. I rarely get nut shots and have never worn a comfortable cup, so I'd rather just accept a little pain once in a while. However, all of the cups listed below I have seen recommended by MMA and BJJ fighters as being protective and comfortable:
Shock Doctor Bioflex
Sick Spider Guard Flex Cup
The NuttyBuddy
