Surprisingly, I have never been in the store. :) I may have to stop in and see if any of it appeals to my tastes.

Libra and I have talked about doing temp tats on our faces for an event sometime. I always wanted to look like a Maori.

Isk, I think the Maori tats would look intimidating, but I can't see you doing the Haka.

Patchiz, thank Brian for looking. I'm going to check it out.

Actually, I could see Isk and Libra doing the haka.

Oh, I can do the haka. It's especially intimidating if I've been eating blue popsicles. I am sure Libra and I could refine this. We should wait until Link gets back, though, and then all of the Deshi can do it together. Blue popsicles and face tats all around!

The Deshi is a very culturally progressive unit. We wear Greek skirts, Japanese kanji and shoes, pirate bandanas, European tabards and now we can integrate kiwi islander cultural traditions into our appearance and pre-battle rituals.

And there's one of the differences that make Bel/dag unique as compared to the SCA.

Haka YES!!!! Brian said my idea of suggesting a unit Haka was too geeky, lol,I say a haka is fun and show's fidelity brian says......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUkGXULz54c
the haka does not get ya an indescent exposure booking though. lol. So Isk your bringing blue popsicles, and hey where is Brian in that haka line up for Deshi....and Oger, yep that would be so cool to see.
Isk: The Hamerrheim groups interpretation of our costumes was of Oriental persuasion, more Japanese actually. The historian of Hamerrheim, "Hauk", mentioned how he could see a story line developing between The Vikings of Hamerrheim(HH) and the Deshi of ATD, for trading. Trading for theatrical purposes only. I see may be since Tibs is developing a Viking story and costuming he and Brian could be, liaison to (like a small Viking clan) that introduces Deshi to HH.(Since that has occurred, that would be cool and would give a diplomatic alliance between the Deshi of ATD and HH. Unedited gonna post anyway.

Oh, I am definitely not letting our Scottsman and our Ogre get out of it. We just won't have all the currently active Deshi until Link is back.

I have been kicking around the request that HH made in regards to a background and I think it would be fun to sit down and make something up over cards and the grill. I have a few ideas of my own (I did first form this unit almost 20 years ago), but it'd be fun to see what we all come up with. I don't know that the haka will actually be part of our 'lore', but fidelity to a backstory is hardly at the heart of what it is to be Deshi.

"but fidelity to a backstory is hardly at the heart of what it is to be Deshi",-ISK..........lost me there, fidelity and honor are not alien to eachother for sure. Teach me the story of Deshi and allow me to honor the backstory and retell. Perhaps the backstory is accuring now for the future and my humble apologies for implying there needs to be more than what is. I'm not familiar with the term cards and grill, sorry. Simple housewife feeling a humbleness to her own ignorance.

No worries, Denise. You're just giving me too much credit for a deeper meaning. "Over cards and the grill" just refers to talking it out while we play some games and cook some food.

As far as "fidelity to a back story" is concerned, I mean that what it is to be Deshi has little to do with an imaginative history of the group. It IS all about the friendship and fidelity to our unit mates. It IS all about a commitment to playing the game well, pushing ourselves to excel, and still maintaining a positive attitude while enjoying the wins and the losses.

A fanciful history for Deshi could be fun to put together. Personally, I will probably always view it as a highly flexible work in progress that can add some fun ambience, but the Deshi for me is and always will be about the people in the unit alongside me.

Thanks for clarifying Isk. Games...tend to be more confusing than amusing as my duties have always taken first place and card and board games were the caboose that did not ever get hitched to the train. I like the group of folks that gather also. The time we spend may be brief in the scope of hours in a work week, yet the personal reflection is a story I share with extended family and old acquaintances.
The opportunities to visit more with Hamerrheim will be set by the An Tir Dearg Council from my point of view. The Hamerrheim Guild as an association for me is closing as I take on the vitality of the friendship's created by that vehicle. The guild itself does have worth to the person desiring a theatrical outlet. As for me my laughter and joy is found outside of role play, there I go being redundant again, ha ha ha. I have let the Gothi of Hamerrheim (Bjarki) know what a poor messenger I can be. Since Tibs and Bjarki are Face Book friends now the communication and further story to develop will be via their alliances.
Have a nice weekend all.

Uh, wow, so I'm a little late in arriving here.

I'm somewhere between flattered and utterly mortified about others views on us doing said Haka.

So yeah...I like some kinds of tattoos...*awkward*

Hi Libra......Welcome to a thread that went a stray off course, ha ha ha. The sale at Earings and more continues as of yesterday. Looked at the temporary tattoos, a few in type Isk mentioned.
The Haka is a playful idea, simply playful. Dance is at the core of my interest....ya can find me cheerfully participating or cheerfully applauding others who engage in dances. If Haka is awkward here is an example of "Steppin"

There is stomping, slapping and jumping.

Not to derail the haka talk. Since this is real world rubbish, what do you guys think about Arizona wanting to make that little stretch of I15 between mesquite and St. George, a Toll road??? Yep, $3 or $6 coming and going. Creeps.

It's total BS......they should be stopped because they'd be taxing an existing highway, but the creeps will get it passed.

I'm more scared of it being designated part of the "Canamex" highway.....I'm not a NAFTA fan.

It's already been dubbed part of the Canamex highway, at least in the article written in the Review Journal. They also said in 1966 when it was built. Arizona balked at having to pay for it going through the gorge. The Federal government needed money for the Vietnam war and took 20% of the funding for the freeway. Guess who ended up giving the money to Arizona to build it? Utah.

Arizonan's don't even use it, It'll effect you and I going back and forth, and truckers.

It's a perfect solution, for them. They get cash and very few of their voting constituents are negatively affected. Hopefully the fed has a better option for that third toll-trial slot. Can we put a toll on Arizonans coming into Utah?

lol

I say Utah work with Arizona to annex the gorge area to include Beaver Dam and Littlefield. At least the state would get federal funds to fix the freeway and St. George/Cedar Dispatch already responds to law, ems, and fire for over half of it.
