*** HERE ARE WHERE THE FOLLOWING GO:***
***DATE NEEDS TO BE SELECTED***
At this time, all weekends in February are open at Sand Hollow. This will not stay that way.
Loptr has requested that we not hold the event on the 11th or the 18th because they coincide with his anniversary and an Amtguard event dealing with the end of his reign. I would like to accommodate him with this request.
Doing so will leave us the weekend of February 3, 4, & 5 or February 24, 25, 26
Let's get input and pick the date WITHIN THIS NEXT WEEK, BEFORE NEXT PRACTICE.
Our pricing and choices will look like this:
Overnight Camping:
- Westside Campground:$28 (full hookups)($15 extra vehicle fee)
- Sand Pit Campground: $18 (no hookups) or $25 (water, electric hookups) ($15 extra vehicle fee)
- Primitive Camping Area: $15 (no facilities)
The Sand Pit Campground is large and far away from the traditional family areas over at the Westside campground. I don't think we need electrical hookups, and people can drive/walk over and get water if they need it from the rest room area.
RESERVING THE CAMPSITES will require a credit card, so the Realm funds will need to be transferred to someone's private bank account to cover this transaction; receipt returned to the Realm.
Pricing for the group sites is as follows:
$65 per night, per site. This includes 4 vehicles per site.
ALL OTHER VEHICLES ARE $15 EACH, PER NIGHT
100 people per group site.
_________________________________________________
3 sites for 2 nights is $390.00, and includes 12 vehicles.
We will want to reserve Group Sites 23, 27, and 30 to be as close together as possible, with main fire at Group Site 27.
how are the funds lookin for this event cause i could help out i also have ideas for fundraisers and that sort of stuff if you need just let me know cause i would like to help out in any way i can
When is Superbowl weekend....as we learned with the first one, doing it on Superbowl weekend is not a good idea.
Super Bowl XLVI is February 5th.
That early in February will be colder than the latter weekend. How does it compare to timing of March events in the West?
I vote for the last weekend. It will be closer to Thaw Brawl, but oh well. Each group site is 100 people? ;)
I like that weekend as well. So, now we need to collect the money and put it in a bank account to make the reservation.
Yes, each group site is 100 people per the internet.
Interesting. I'm pretty sure they told me 30 per group site before. Sounds like a typo to me.
The realm's got 140 already, so if we can all pony up the remaining 250, we'll be golden.
I'd like to spice up our capture the flag battles this year in a manner similar to the Battlegrounds in World of Warcraft. Each round will be won when a team has possession of both flags at its flag point. The game will be won by the team that wins 2-out-of-3 rounds. There will be either time-based or number-of-people-based rezzing inside each castle.
My plan is to build castle walls out of large cardboard boxes from the hospital left over from my wife's supplies. They'll be held together with a couple pieces of duct tape and given a quick spray paint of black and gray to reasonably look like stone blocks from the middle distance. Yes, they'll be fragile, but they're cheap and have the ability to be broken down and then tossed in the dumpster.
At any rate, put these walls up at the base of the hills on the side of the bowl shaped field we'll be fighting on at Treasure Valley park (which is conveniently about an arrow-shot across) and up the hill, inside the castles will be three structures (think store fronts) also made out of boxes in addition to the target flag. One will be the gate house, the second will be the infirmary, and the third will be the armory. These structures provide benefits to their owners and are "destroyed" when 2+ people tear down a banner hanging on them.
If the gatehouse is destroyed, then the defenders cannot stand within a pre-roped area inside their castle from the gate. This will allow the attackers some free room to move in and storm the keep. Defenders can run through the area to go on the offensive. If the infirmary is destroyed, then there are no more rezzes for that team. If the armory is destroyed, then there are no more reusable missile weapons and shields stay broken after rezzing. Hopefully these will add a fun dynamic and help speed the game up. The game can be won without destroying any structures.
What do you think?
Okay the thread is here, yet most of discussions from field are yet to be posted, are we having an arching tourney, an example can be found here http://www.facebook.com/events/212186875477861/
I would vote the last week in Feb, So we have less a chance to get snow like we did last year and mabe a little bit warmer jus a little. Fund raisers a good idea.
I like the castle idea for the battles. The only issue I can see is stability. This wont cause any injury (at least I don't think it will) and it might actually add for some fun, but I am pretty sure that if I hit a cardboard box wall with my arrow, or a javy its coming down :-p Now that is only if I understand your construction correctly. There are some ways we might be able to make it stable. Might be a fun experiment to test before hand. I like the objective based game though.
I'm working on the stability in my mind - I think the weight of 20-30 boxes will be enough for all but full on body charges on the flat side. Construction would be some rolled duct tape underneath and strips on the flats overlapping box seams. Possibly put a row or spaced row of boxes every couple feet on the backside at the bottom to serve as a support. Each wall segment will be one massive piece as will the structures.....not really something we can go in, but a 3D stack 4-5 high and 3 deep. They should absolutely be as safe as anything.
That will work fine. I was thinking they were only 1 deep.
as a means to save spending cash, let me suggest ya use Brian's paint experiance and connections to paint stores to purchase a cheap latex paint verses a quite a bit of spray paint. Also he has access to sprayer and talent ......just a suggestion.:)
We could do that.....sprayer would give better coverage.
Thanks Denise!
I'm not really sure I am a fan of the cardboard box walls/towers. I'd like to discuss this more in person.
I do like the idea of the armory and infirmary, but I don't really see the gatehouse working well at this point. Let's play-test this at practice somehow.
Ok, I'll be calling you tonight at about 8:30 when I'm on my lunch break. If not, it'll probably wait until next Wednesday.
So Isk and I did some talking on the phone and a couple issues brought up with the game idea are:
- shoddy look of cardboard boxes
- interference with playability / ego/temper factor with gate delineation and heralds calling people
- missile weapon re-usability
Some possible work arounds we discussed were:
1) Not sure about the look - Denise offered a suggestion about using real paint and a sprayer. This might be doable. Perhaps we can bring out our fabric walls again. The main concern is not looking ghetto / increasing the legitimacy of the Realm's operations and standings at the national level.
2) Gatehouse: make the gate opening impenetrable to arrows/javs while the structure is operative and then penetrable when structure is destroyed.
3) Armory: both armor and shields remain broken at rez. Re-usability should be defined as what projectiles are currently in an archer's/javeliner's hands - OR - at their feet if they are in a stationary defensive position. It will be up to heralds to police that and remove "extra" projectiles and deliver them to a neutral spot for the other team to be able to retrieve while still being under threat of attack.
Thoughts?
I was looking at these pictures and we could actually build the gate houses and armories right into the wall aside from the gates. This will shore up the walls, save on boxes, and create a funnel for the bad guys to have to get through....something like this, I'm thinking......
I humbly propose the council consider an idea of an archery tournament. Here is the information proposed.
* The archery tournament targets and prizes will be developed from private funds seperate from realm funds. Proceeds will first reimburse private purse then remainder given to the realm treasurer/secretary for realm fund expenses.
* Designated time of tournament 2 hours prior to feast.
* Fee of $3.00 seperate from WoR fees and payable at troll.
* 10 Stationary targets made of ply wood with soft cloth opening on "bulls eye".This may require my enlisting the artist we used previosly to create mythical characters, cloaked riders =4 possibly with faces of 2011 WoR winners made from phot copy (sticking out tongue etc.goofy pics)a dragon (similar to the dragon in Pete's Dragon)or a hydra.A shield with the An Tir Dearg emblem, a shield blank, a pheonix and two more undecided targets.
* Highest Accuracy score wins a black Apocolyptic Cloak (Created and funded by Patchiz and the Scottsman;) )$100.00 value and a target that represents winners realm at next WoR on blank shield afore mentioned.
*Second Highest Score in Accuracy wins a corsette (Again manufactured by Patchiz and the Scottsman)$40.00 value.
* Third Highest Score in Accuracy wins a roll of blue foam $7.00 value and a cotton tunic $10.00 value
* Boobie prize for lowest score gets a Pez dispenser on a licorice rope necklace and a stuffed animal....horse.
* Targets will be set a minumum of 25ft from center of a semi-circle.
* Archer has 4 seconds to aim and fire at target, clock stops at release of arrow from bow.
* A minumum of two harolds one for stop watch and one for procedural order.
That's what I thought of thus far. Thoughts? big okay and approval?
storage of targets will be my responsability.oopsy did not previously mention, arg
sound like a good idea, get more people involved, not everybody is a sword and border.
The Council will absolutely discuss this matter. I appreciate how much thought you've been putting into this.
One major concern I have, and that we discussed several months ago at practice when we laid out a lot of plan foundations, is that tournaments take up a lot of time from fighting. The Council had previously stated WoR (as a short event) would attempt to fall in line with the general thoughts of Belegarth-at-large: that tournaments detract from time fighting and are a drag on resources when an event is not a week long. It is true that not everyone is a sword and boarder, but the majority are and that's what 99% of people who come to an event are there for. This is even more true because WoR this year will be a single day event with no camping. Those who attend are going to want to get as much fighting in as possible to be worth their time and money spent travelling.
We will weigh the pro's and con's. Running this concurrently on the side of main fighting may be a workaround, but it would reduce the audience available to participate.
Thank you for your suggestion and all of the effort you have been putting into your idea. I appreciate what you bring to the Realm, Denise.
Thanks to ya for hearing me out. A side event would be appropriate as Isk mentioned. As for fees and etc. I dunno about dimissing a small fee. Anyway should we proceed?
Yes, you are good to go with all of your plans.
A fee will probably discourage participation, but I understand if you feel you need it.
Please let me know within two weeks if you plan to charge a fee so I can make that announcement as well and people will have time to scrounge up some cash to participate.
pennies from heaven and no fee required, whoosh tht wuz close
