I got the idea from this thread and am in the very beginning stages of making woven leather armor out of leather belts for the thigh/hip/butt area that would attach to a regular belt. It would be approximately knee length and segmented such that:
- 3 front panels (one for each thigh and a short one for the groin)
- 2 side panels
- 1 or 2 panels for the butt/hamstrings
My base belt will be my old Roman cingulum militare with the apron and brass plates removed. I want to rivet the ends together, but was also thinking that DAP could help in case the rivets failed. I am not planning to use DAP as the sole means of keeping this thing together!
Is DAP even usable on leather? Should I buy rivets or can I make my own out of wide-headed nails?
Other thoughts, concerns, advice?
